About this event
Medication management is a frequent source of complaint to the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission. The use of restraint in the residential aged care setting is currently a focus of the Royal Commission into Aged Care and also in the media and public eye.
Together, the Commission and the Department of Health are instituting a number of measures aimed to minimise the inappropriate use of medication, and of restraint in particular.
Join Melanie as she demonstrates how the Commission is firmly focussed on these issues and actively engaged with the sector both in its regulatory and its educational roles.
In this Guest Lecture, we will:
- Look at restraint in all its forms, with examples
- Explore prescribing for chemical restraint
- Define 'informed consent'
- Determine where these issues fit in context with Human Rights, Aged Care Quality Standards, best practice and the law
